Back in 1990 we started inviting friends to join us for a bike ride on January 1 so that we could get a healthy start on the new year. After the ride, which varied in length due to weather conditions, we always sat down for some black-eyed peas and cornbread.
We opened up the invitations to include the local cycling community and began what has become a local cycling tradition, called Bikin' Mike's Merry Fitness/Happy New Rear Ride.
Since 2007 we have been launching this ride out of the Community Center in Blue Ridge TX. This year we have added NEW variations of our routes, offering distances of 15, 28 and 40 miles. The support team has grown and the weather still varies, but the ride still ends with some black-eyed peas and cornbread.
